I am conducting a plein-air oil painting workshop at Castlemaine Botanical Gardens on Saturday 12 April 2025, 11 am to 3 pm.

 

 

The theme of this workshop is  Inventive Colour. 

 

 

I have been making oil paintings on site at the gardens and which feature the lake. While my work is grounded in seeing, my use of colour often, and sometimes quite radically, departs from naturalism. 

 

 

This workshop will show you how to use colour in an expressive and bold way. While we will concern ourselves with naturalistic features like light, form and space we will also be cognizant of patterning, shape and gestural mark making. Above all I will encourage you to use colour in ways that depart from the descriptive. We are seeking to create striking work that charms the senses.
